New fans groove to 'Anime Music'

Hit songs sung by anime characters are the latest musical genre to climb the pop charts in Japan, hot on the heels of perennial chart-toppers like SMAP.
The song "Go! Go! Maniac" captured the top spot on the May 10 Oricon weekly music chart for single CDs, followed by "Listen!!" at No. 2.

Anime & Manga Japan / Blu-ray version of 'Nausicaa' shoots to top of sales chart

Director Hayao Miyazaki's "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" Blu-ray edition hit the market July 14 and immediately topped the July 26 Blu-ray ranking compiled by Oricon Inc.
Released by Walt Disney Co. (Japan) Ltd., the Blu-ray version sold 20,000 copies to grab the top spot in the weekly ranking for July 12 to 18. This is a phenomenal sales figure for a film first released 26 years ago, in 1984.

Tales from Earthsea (ゲド戦記, Gedo Senki?, loosely Ged's War Chronicles) is a 2006 Japanese anime film directed by Gorō Miyazaki. It was first released in Japan by Studio Ghibli, on July 29, 2006. It is set to be released on August 13, 2010, in the US by Walt Disney Pictures.
The film is loosely based on a combination of plots and characters from the first four books of Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea series, A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore, and Tehanu.
