The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (時をかける少女) is a 2006 Japanese animated science fiction romance film directed by Mamoru Hosoda and written by Satoko Okudera based on the 1967 novel Toki o Kakeru Shojo by Yasutaka Tsutsui. The film was produced by Madhouse and distributed by Kadokawa Herald Pictures. Riisa Naka voices Makoto Konno, a teenager who inadvertently gains a mysterious power. She learns from her aunt Kazuko Yoshihara, voiced by Sachie Hara, that she has the power to to travel through time. Makoto begins using the time-leaps frivolously to fix problems.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was released on July 15, 2006 to critical acclaim, and it won numerous awards, including the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year.

Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger

Fighting Spirit, known in Japan as The First Step (はじめの一歩 Hajime no Ippo), is a boxing manga and anime series created by Jōji "George" Morikawa which is serialized by Kodansha in Weekly Shōnen Magazine. The plot follows the story of highschool student Makunouchi Ippo, as he begins his career in boxing and over time obtains many titles and defeats various opponents.
On September 15, 2008 it was announced in Weekly Shonen Magazine that a second season of Hajime no Ippo would begin airing on January 6, 2009. The second season is called Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger and concluded on June 30, 2009.

Digital Content Expo to be held in October

The Story of Saiunkoku

The Story of Saiunkoku (彩雲国物語) is a series of Japanese light novels written by Sai Yukino and illustrated by Kairi Yura. As of July 2011, eighteen volumes of the series have been released. Four side story anthologies have also been released, collecting stories originally published in The Beans magazine.
A manga version, also illustrated by Kairi Yura, is serialized in Beans Ace, which is published by Kadokawa Shoten. However when Beans Ace ended, the manga was moved to Monthly Asuka. Currently, seven tankōbon volumes have been released. The series has been licensed by Viz Media for an English release in North America as part of their Shojo Beat imprint.

The World God Only Knows (神のみぞ知るセカイ), abbreviated as Kaminomi (神のみ), is a manga series written and illustrated by Tamiki Wakaki. The manga has been serialized in the Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine by Shogakukan since April 9, 2008, with individual chapters collected in thirteen tankobon volumes as of July 2011. The prototype version of the story was first featured as a one-shot on Weekly Shonen Sunday on its 2007 Issue 32 release, and was titled "Koishite!? Kami-sama!!" (恋して!? 神様?). The 2010 Issue #19 of Weekly Shōnen Sunday announced an anime adaptation had been green-lit, which premiered on October 6, 2010.

His hometown is Okirai, Sanriku Town where had a serious damages at the tsunami on March 11. Local citizens in his hometown are glad to hear this good news. Mr. Azuma was graduated from Ohfunato Senior High School after finished study at Sakihama Elementary and Okirai Junior High.

San Francisco to host J-Pop Summit Festival this month

The J-Pop Summit Festival, an annual event devoted to Japanese pop culture such as music, fashion, film, design, food and anime, will be held in San Francisco on Aug. 27-28, its organizer, New People Inc., announced earlier this month.
New People will host the event in San Francisco's Japantown, and this year the event will highlight the recent vocaloid boom.
In the United States, many fan conventions are dedicated to anime, manga and other aspects of Japanese culture. Anime Expo in Los Angeles and the Otakon convention in Baltimore are also known in Japan.

Mai Mai Miracle and Mrs. Nobuko Takagi

Mai Mai Miracle (マイマイ新子と千年の魔法, lit. Mai Mai Shinko and the Millennium-Old Magic) is a Japanese animated film based on Nobuko Takagi's novelization of her autobiography, Maimai Shinko. It was produced by the animation studio Madhouse, distributed by Shochiku, and directed by Sunao Katabuchi.
The film debuted at the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland on August 15, 2009. It was released in Japan on November 21, and ultimately had a rare seven-month run at the cinemas.
The movie's plot is partially based on research on Sei Shonagon's The Pillow Book.

Steins;Gate (シュタインズ・ゲート) is a Japanese visual novel developed by 5pb. and Nitroplus, and was released on October 15, 2009 for the Xbox 360. This is the two companies' second time collaborating together after Chaos;Head. A port to the Windows operating system on the PC was released on August 26, 2010 and a port for Sony's PlayStation Portable handheld game console was released on June 23, 2011. The game is described by the development team as a "hypothetical science ADV" (想定科学ADV). The gameplay in Steins;Gate follows a linear plot line which offers pre-determined scenarios with courses of interaction.

Hatsune Miku designer to release new anime

The illustrator who helped create the computer-generated idol Hatsune Miku has teamed up with anime studio Gonzo K.K. on a new anime series called "Copihan."
The anime will be streamed online by the Nico Nico Douga video-sharing website starting from Aug. 11 and will revolve around nine cute-looking characters created by the illustrator KEI, who rose to fame over the Internet and is best known for the Hatsune Miku character. Much of the detail of the plot is being kept under wraps.

Toei opened official YouTube channel to promote tokusatsu TV shows, movies

Toei Co. has launched an official YouTube channel dedicated to live-action "tokusatsu" (special effects) TV shows and movies, the film studio said.
The video-sharing channel streams the first and second episodes from the popular "Kamen Rider," "Super Sentai" (super squad) franchises and other TV shows for free of charge.
The channel also offers sci-fi movies and original content to promote the charms of special effects on the world's largest video-sharing website, Toei added.
About 120 video clips of episodes from popular TV shows and full-length films are available on the website.

'Toaru Hikushi e no Tsuioku' to hit cinemas Oct. 1

Leading anime studio Madhouse Inc., known for constantly producing acclaimed anime titles such as "Summer Wars" and "Paprika," will release a new feature film "Toaru Hikushi e no Tsuioku" (Reminiscence for a pilot) Oct. 1, the studio announced.
The film is based on a light novel of the same name by Koroku Inumura.
The story of the much-anticipated anime adaptation centers around Fana, a girl who is next in line to the throne of an empire, and Charles, a pilot who falls in love with her as a war between two nations continues. They develop romantic feelings toward each other against the backdrop of heart-pounding aerial dogfights.

The Sky Crawlers (スカイ·クロラ) is a Japanese novel series by Hiroshi Mori. First published by Chuokoron-shinsha in June 2001 and spanning five books, it follows the journeys and tribulations of a group of young fighter pilots involved in dogfight warfare, and is set during an alternate historical period. The series is unlike other works by Mori, noted for his series of mystery novels. The art for the series is illustrated by mangaka Kenji Tsuruta. The series was adapted into an animated film, a video game and a manga series. While the film and game are available in English, the original novels and the manga have not been translated as of February 2010.

Tiger & Bunny (タイガー&バニー) is a 2011 Japanese anime television series produced by Sunrise under the direction of Keiichi Satou.
The screenplay was written by Masafumi Nishida, with original character design by Masakazu Katsura. The series began its broadcast run in Japan on April 3, 2011 on Tokyo MX followed by rebroadcasts on BS11 Digital and MBS. Viz Media are also simulcasting the series, streaming on Hulu and Anime News Network.[2] It is set in a futuristic city where two superheroes, the old fashioned "Wild Tiger" and the rookie hero Barnaby Brooks Jr. are forced by their employers to work together. A one-shot manga drawn by Masakazu Katsura will be published in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine on August 4, 2011.

They are written by Yozaburo Kanari or Seimaru Amagi (depending on series) and illustrated by Fumiya Sato. The Kindaichi series, which started serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine in 1992, is one of the earliest works in the mystery manga genre. In 1995, the manga won the Kodansha Manga Award for shonen.

Ishinomori museum in Miyagi to hold 'Evangelion' exhibit

The Ishinomori Shotaro Furusato Kinenkan in Tome, Miyagi Prefecture, will hold a special exhibition devoted to the "Evangelion" animated series from July 16 to Oct. 23, museum officials said.
The exhibition will feature the original proposals for the anime, key frames and many other materials usually kept from public view.
Screenplays, storyboards and additional dialogue recording (ADR) scripts will help illustrate the production process.

Tokyo Int’l Anime Fair to Return March 22-25, 2012

The executive committee of Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) announced that the event will return next year from March 22 to March 25. TAF will once again take place at East Halls 1, 2, 3, and other venues at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center on Odaiba island at Tokyo Bay. As in previous years, the first two days are business days that are only open to industry and press representatives, while the last two days are public days that are open to everyone.
