Japan Media Arts Festival travels to Kyoto in September

Kyoto, an ancient capital filled with traditional Japanese culture, will play host this fall to the latest trends in modern manga and anime.
As part of the annual Japan Media Arts Festival, an art and manga exhibition will be held in Kyoto from Sept. 2 to 12.
The Japan Media Arts Festival in Kyoto is organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs to introduce Japanese culture through art, entertainment, animation and manga.

Held each winter in Tokyo, the Japan Media Arts Festival showcases award-winning works. In recent years, traveling exhibitions have been added at home and overseas, including one in Istanbul from August to October.

The Kyoto exhibition will be at the Kyoto Art Center, where media art works will be shown, and the Kyoto International Manga Museum, featuring a showcase of manga works.

The details of "Kyoto Art Center" is as follows.
Address: 546-2 Yamafushiyama-cho, Muromachi-dori Takoyakushi-sagaru, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto

Notable among exhibits at the museum will be original manga drawings seldom seen on display. At the Kyoto Art Center, recent winners of the Japan Media Arts Festival awards in the Art Division will be shown. Interactive art works and large installations will fill the center. There will also be screenings of award-winning works and other feature-length and short animation films, such as "Summer Wars" and "Elemi."

Last year, the Japan Media Arts Festival was held in Hamamatsu. Previous venues include Tsukuba in Ibaraki Prefecture, Tokushima, Yamaguchi, Fukui, Fukuoka and Okayama.

This year's venue will be the first in the Kansai region. Since interest in media art runs high in that part of Japan, the exhibition is sure to attract legions of visitors.
