Sachio Fujima wins top prize at Miyagi Sendai animation festival

Sachio Fujima's six-minute animated short, "My Way Home," won the top honors at the Miyagi Sendai Animation Grand Prix 2011.
It was the second straight year for Fujima to take home an award from the animation contest; last year, his short anime "Pen" received an award.
"My Way Home" features a commuter train jam-packed with salarymen. A view from the window brings subtle changes in their everyday lives.

Three other works also won awards for excellence: Masaki Inoue's "Dorobo no Kuni" (Country of thieves), and two by Akifumi Nonaka, "Climber" and "Nemurase Sensei!" (Teacher who makes us sleep!).
Nonaka graduated with a diploma from the Department of Animation of the Graduate School of Film and New Media at the Tokyo University of the Arts in spring 2010. His two award-winning titles are different in style.

Osamu Kaneko's "Ame no Kyujitsu" (Rainy holiday) won a special jury award.

The event also awarded original works and story ideas featuring the animated advertising character Musubimaru.

The top prize in this division went to Haruko Ishiguro's "Suzume Odori" (sparrow dance) and Takako Nihei's "Imoni-kai" (potato stew party).

Organized by the Miyagi prefectural government, the Sendai city government and other entities, the Miyagi Sendai Animation Grand Prix fosters original anime from Miyagi Prefecture and other areas in the Tohoku region. This year marked the third installment of the contest.

The organizers are eager to find uncelebrated local artists through the selection process and support the winning works.

They also aim to find animation creators who have planning abilities and skills good enough to produce commercial works. The other purpose is to promote business exchange between animation industry professionals in the Tokyo metropolitan area and the Tohoku region.
The award-winning titles will be showcased at anime fairs and other events.
