French animated short "La Detente" wins at Sapporo film festival

"La Detente," a French animated short directed by Pierre Ducos and Bertrand Bey, won the best animation award at the 6th Sapporo International Short Film Festival and Market, which wrapped up its five-day run on Oct. 10.
In fact, no Japanese anime titles won prizes this year.
In 2011, 2,291 titles were submitted from 88 countries and regions. Four artists were selected for the filmmakers’ section, while 58 films made their way into the one title section of the international competition.

From Japan, Atsushi Wada was nominated for the filmmakers category, while Katsutoshi Kawabe’s “Kuromame no Sapporo Tanjo” was mentioned in the family and children section.
Seiji Ohara’s “Concrete Savanna,” Wataru Uekusa’s “The Tender March,” Mirai Mizue’s “Tatamp,” Asuka Shirata’s “An Affectionate Summer” and Hiroyasu Ishida’s “Rain Town” were selected for the national program.
